Robert B. Schnare Memorial Trophy
The Charles E. Harris Memorial Scholarship & Robert B. Schnare Memorial Trophy is awarded by the Chester Volunteer Fire Department and the Village of Chester to a graduating grade 12 student attending post secondary education.
The fifteen hundred dollar scholarship may be awarded to a single applicant or divided amongst all those that apply. The division is based on the below criteria and only those applicants who meet the following criteria will be considered.
1. Active or Junior member of the Chester Volunteer Fire Department
2. Child of an Active, Life, Reserve Auxiliary, or Honorary member of Chester Volunteer Fire Department
3. Child of a Village of Chester Commissioner
4. Grandchild or other relation of any of the aforementioned criteria.

Charles E. "Bomber" Harris
A founding member and first Chair of the Village of Chester Commission, 'Bomber' as he was known from his RAF/RCAF flying days, was the first CO of the RCAF 434 'Bluenose' squadron of 'Halifax' bombers in England during WWII.
Charles was a regional director of the now defunct local Emergency Measure Organization. During the mid to late 60's he assisted Chester Volunteer Fire Department and other local Fire Department acquire and horse trade used fire trucks and equip from various sources, such as decommissioned trucks from other gov services etc. Charles was also instrumental in the funding of and construction of the Lido pool in 1967.
The Charles E. Harris Memorial Scholarship was established by the CVFD following his death in 1973.
